Homemade cinnamon applesauce that’s delicious, made with just a few simple ingredients, and incredibly easy to prepare.
Ingredients
Directions
Growing up in Oak Glen, California, where apple season is a big deal and Julian is just a short drive away, my mom often made this applesauce recipe with pork chops. It's incredibly easy, uses just a little sugar, and has a hint of warming spices that perfectly capture the cozy essence of fall and apple season.
Peel, core, and chop 3 pounds of apples into small pieces, then place them in a large, heavy-bottomed pot on medium heat. Add 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, and 1/3 cup of water or apple cider.
Bring the apples to a boil, then lower the heat to a simmer. Use a potato masher to gently mash the apples and aid in the breakdown process.
When the apples are soft, mash them to your preferred consistency, whether chunky or smooth. Use a potato masher for a chunkier texture or an immersion blender for a smoother result.
Serve warm or cold. Enjoy!
